Situated at the mouth of the Clarence River, encased by a collection of rugged and raw headlands and beaches, is the sleepy fishing town turned sought-after beachside destination of Yamba. With a stunning natural environment, plenty to see, do, eat and watch and a pervasive sense of community that evokes a warm holiday nostalgia, Yamba magically masters that quintessential Australian laid-back vibe. 

The main road into Yamba weaves its way alongside the picturesque Clarence River; adorned with trawlers, boats and marine craft, charming timber piers and plenty of pelicans. Heading into town, you’ll pass holiday parks, fishing co-ops and side of the road stalls, all bordered by national park, surrounded by water and oozing natural beauty.

Yamba town itself is small but mighty - there’s fishing and surf shops, convenience stores, a range of cafes and restaurants, clothing and homewares, plus fresh produce and seafood. Follow the winding road up towards Pilot Hill to the famous Yamba Lighthouse, plus find the equally famous Pacific Hotel - a classic Australian pub built in 1934, that retains all of it’s old school charm. 

With five beaches on offer, you’ll be spoilt for choice for water activities in Yamba. Yamba’s main beach sits directly beneath the Pacific Hotel, with an ocean pool for extra safe swimming. On the northern side of the Yamba Lighthouse is Turners Beach, just a few minutes from town, patrolled all through summer and great for swimming, surfing and soaking up the sun. There’s a long breakwall here and a rock verge with steps carved into the cliff face - perfect for exploring and adventure seeking. Whiting Beach has very few waves so is great for the family, Convent Beach is a private little pocket with lots of shade and Pippi Beach has a long stretch of sand, perfect for walking with your pooch. 

Head just 5km south of town to Angourie for more of Yamba’s natural wonderland. The iconic surf break of Angourie Point is as surf-friendly as it is stunning, with one of the best right hand point breaks around and is accessed via the lookout, with views of the coast below and a beautiful bush walk down to the beach. There’s always somewhere to surf in Yamba, with beach breaks in town, the point break at Angourie plus Back Beach, Spooky’s and Green Point. Also at Angourie are the famous Green Pool and Blue Pool - large natural rock pools just behind the beach, set in stunning stone and bushland - plus the stunning 10km Angourie walking track, Yuraygir National Park and Coastal Walk. 

Things to do in Yamba
Spend salty, sandy and sunshine-filled days at one of Yamba’s many, diverse beaches, exploring all types of waves, rock formations and stunning rugged coastline. There’s some stunning coastal walks ranging from a relatively easy 5-10kms to a 65km hike, plus an easy and gorgeous riverside stroll along the Clarence River, watching the array of birdlife, jumping fish and marine craft swaying in the harbour. Explore Yamba on your bike, with cycle tracks weaving their way around the town and beyond. 

All things water are covered in this beachside town - there’s plenty of fishing, kayaking and paddleboarding, boat charters, cruises and ferries on the river, BBQ pontoons and houseboats and whale watching tours in the (warm) winter. Surfers of all levels will love Yamba, with plenty of breaks to choose from for all conditions and the iconic Angourie Point surfing reserve offering up that famous point break. 

Get your taste of the city with trendy cafes and good coffee, sample famous fresh prawns direct from the trawler and choose from a range of different restaurants offering cuisines from all over the world. Dine in at the pub, the surf club and the bowls club or grab takeaway to eat atop one of the many headlands with ocean views.
